Foster Application Process
Become a Foster — Save a Life
Fostering is one of the most powerful ways to help a rescue dog. At Hope & Freedom Canine Rescue, we rely on dedicated fosters to provide safe, loving homes for Belgian Malinois, German (Czech, Dutch) Shepherds, and other high-energy working breeds until they find their forever families.
Ready to make a difference? Here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Submit a Foster Application
Begin by filling out our online foster application: Foster Application Form
Please be as detailed as possible. The more we know, the better we can match you with a dog that suits your home, experience level, and lifestyle.
Step 2: Application Review & Interview
Once we receive your application, our team will:
Review your responses
Reach out via phone or email to discuss next steps
Conduct vet and personal reference checks, if applicable
Step 3: Home Check (Virtual or In-Person)
We’ll arrange a home check to ensure a safe and secure environment for a foster dog. This may be done virtually via video call or in person, depending on your location.
Step 4: Meet Your Foster Dog
Once approved, we’ll match you with a dog that fits your experience and household. You’ll receive all the information we have on the dog’s temperament, needs, and medical history.
Step 5: We Provide Supplies & Support
We set you up for success! We provide:
Food, crate, leash, collar, toys
Veterinary care (we cover all medical costs)
Ongoing support and training resources
24/7 guidance from our foster team
Step 6: Keep Us Updated
You’ll help us get the dog adopted by:
Sharing updates, photos, and behavior observations
Attending (or helping arrange) meet-and-greets with potential adopters
Giving feedback so we can find the right forever home
Step 7: Adoption & Repeat!
Once your foster dog is adopted, you’ll have the chance to take a short break — or jump right in and help another dog in need. Many fosters return again and again because fostering saves lives.
No experience with working breeds?
That’s okay! If you’re committed, open to learning, and ready to provide structure, we’ll guide you every step of the way.

We may contact you for:
Clarification on your responses
A brief phone interview
Vet and personal reference checks
3. Home Check (Virtual or In-Person)
To ensure a safe environment for our dogs, we conduct a home check, either virtually via video call or in person (depending on your location). We’re not looking for perfection, just safety, security, and a good fit.
4. Meet & Greet
If approved, we’ll arrange a meet-and-greet with the dog(s) you’re interested in, either at the foster home, an adoption event, or a neutral location. All household members (including other pets) should attend when possible.
5. Adoption Decision & Agreement
If it’s a match, we’ll finalize the adoption with a signed Adoption Agreement and collection of the adoption fee (which helps cover medical care, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and more).
6. Welcome Home!
Once the adoption is complete, you’ll officially welcome your new best friend home! We remain available for ongoing support and guidance, especially with these intelligent, high-energy working breeds.
Important Notes:
We prioritize homes with breed experience or those committed to training and structure
Fenced yards are preferred but not always required
We adopt out on a case-by-case basis to ensure the best fit for both dog and adopter
